THERE'S QUIET IN THE WOODS

There’s Quiet In The Woods

September

There’s quiet in the woods these days.
The songbirds have flown away.
Occasionally we hear a dee-dee from a Chickadee,
And then there’s a caw from a Crow, and a scree from a Jay,
But the rest have flown away.
Now and then we hear the rustle of fallen leaves,
And the chip of a startled Chipmunk,
As it rushes to hide.
But for the most part,
There’s quiet in the woods these days.

FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE GROUP OF SEVEN - The Friends Of Killarney Park

At some point over the past year, or so, I’ve no doubt gone on about Killarney Provincial Park, and how we spent some years hiking, canoeing, and sketching in the park. That it’s a wonderful place to explore there can be no doubt, and to reinforce this fact the Friends of Killarney Park recently made a documentary that tells the story of how they are following in the footsteps of the Group of Seven to protect and preserve the pristine Canadian wilderness of lakes, trees, mountains and wildlife that is Killarney Provincial Park.  I recommend that you take a few minutes to watch their video, after which I feel certain that you’ll understand my passion for Killarney Provincial Park.

The following are a few of my watercolours and drawings made over the years spent sketching and painting in Killarney Provincial Park. My book, IMPRESSIONS - An Artist's Introduction To Killarney Provincial Park, contains many of these drawings and paintings and is available from the Friends' gift shop. All proceeds from the sale of this book go towards helping the Friends with various programs.
