There were more studies and tracings in Folder #1. Some were duplicates, different sizes as I
reduced, or expanded the image to a proper size for a painting or an etching. Here are a few more for which I believed there should be a record.

Goldfinch - Pencil Study 1992
It all starts with a few marks on a piece of paper. The idea is to encourage the picture to make its appearance. You see, the image already resides in the paper, the lines the marks connect with the image, and it slowly takes shape. Tracing paper preserves the good lines, and transfers them to a clean piece of paper where eventually the shape that you were seeking, appears.

Barn Swallow - Pencil Drawing 1992
Once you've coaxed the image's outline from the paper you can spend time working out the detail that you hope to recreate in your painting. This particular image was the study for a piece entitled,"Bird On A Wire".
